Sight-seeing by car/bus - SFJ03
This is an interesting sightseeing trip, which includes a visit to the harbor, the area round Kelly Ville, a tour of the former American Base "Bluie West 8", and a trip to the sled dogs. During the trip the history of Kangerlussuaq and the base is outlined. There is a chance of seeing both mountain hares and artic foxes during the trip. During the summer months, it is sometimes possible to spot falcons and eagles along to route.

Barbeque trip to the icecap - SFJ04
Experience an untraditional, partly off-road, drive to the ice cap. We stay for about 2 hours at the ice, giving you the chance to admire the ice with its many colors and sounds, and to enjoy barbeque food from Greenland prepared by the guide.

We drive the 16 miles to the edge of the The Russel's Gletcher by car. During the journey there are plenty of opportunities of seeing reindeer, arctic foxes and birds. Part of the trip is off-road and the drive normally takes about 1 hour each way.

Garnet Rock - SFJ07
Guided drive/hike to the Garnet Rock. We drive to the top of Tacan, from where we continue down the hill past "The Big Salt lake" out to the Garnet Rock, bringing with us our lunch, coffee and tea. By the Garnet Rock, you can find blocks of stone rich in red garnets, which can easily be chipped away by using a hammer and chisel.

Walking Tour to Sugar Loaf and the Waterfall - SFJ08
This tour brings you into the impressive nature a few miles outside Kangerlussuaq. From the top of the mountain Sugar Loaf there is a magnificent view to the Ice Cap. Our next stop is the nearby waterfall with fast running melting water from the Ice Cap. Coffee and tea will be served. This tour can be recommended to those who are not able to do longer hikes.

Cultural City Tour of Ilulissat - JAV01
This guided tour of the town 220 miles north of the Arctic Circle, with its remarkable history and culture will give you an insight into Greenland old and new. Ilulissat, founded in 1741, is the third largest town in Greenland today and boasts a fascinating history. You will see the fishermen in the harbor, and get a round trip in this picturesque townuring a walk through town the guide tells about the history of Ilulissat. We visit the old part of town and see buildings from the very start of the Danish trading station, the busy fishing harbour, the old church and the museum.

Hike to the Old Settlement of Sermermiut - JAV02
Ilulissat Sermermiut – walking trip to the former settlement at the Ice Fjord. The ancient settlement of Sermermiut, 1 mile south of the town is ringed by Ilulissat’s beautiful icebergs. Various different Inuit cultures have lived here over the past 4,000 years, and you can still see remains from ancient times. Learn about local history and customs from the time before the Europeans arrived. See plots settled for thousands of year and admire the views across the rows of icebergs.

Sermermiut – Midnight Trip to the Settlement at the Ice Fjord - JAV03
The area north of the Arctic Circle is called the land of the Midnight Sun. This amazing natural phenomenon lasts from May 24 to July 24. The sun never drops below the horizon in Ilulissat and the pale light casts beautiful contrasts and bathes the ice and mountains in gentle hues. A walk in the Midnight Sun is a wonderful experience. This tour is basically the same as the Sermermiut day tour to the Ice Fjiord settlement but much later in the evening. Your guide will explain all about the ancient settlement of Sermermiut, and you can wander round the plots. The tour continues past The Old Ladies' Gorge and the ancient Inuit graves, which is followed by a snack at Holm's Hill. The tour proceeds along the stunning ice Fjord. En route, the guide talks about Greenland’s flora, fauna, geology and not least the huge volumes of ice in the area. The final part of the tour takes you through Qoororsuaq Gorge.

A Hike along the Ice Fjord - JAV04
All year round, approximately 20 million tons of ice flows out into Ice Fjord from the Ilulissat Glacier every day. This ice is transformed into huge icebergs that stretch up to 100 meters above the water. At the mouth of Ice Fjord, these giant icebergs strand on an underwater moraine. We will also pass the old settlement Sermermiut on the hike.

Walk to Observation Points on Qaqqarsuattat - JAV05
The mountains beyond the characteristic peak of Qaqqarsuattat provide imposing views across the entire area at Ilulissat. We pass places like Holm's Hill, where the town’s people assemble on January 13 each year to welcome back the sun after the extended Arctic night. From there, the walk continues along the Ice Fjord with its huge icebergs, where we stop for lunch. After we start climbing and aim to reach the summit 319 meters above sea level. En route, the guide talks about Greenland’s flora, fauna, geology and not least the huge volumes of ice in the area.

Evening Trip to Ice Fjord - JAV08
The light of the Midnight Sun casts a unique glow on the icebergs, which draws people back again and again. We go very close to the icebergs, whose sheer magnitude can appear quite daunting. The midnight trip is an experience like no other. Remember to bring warm clothing and extra film for your camera.

Ilimanaq – Voyage to a Greenland Village - JAV10
Barely a generation ago, most of the Greenland population lived in the numerous tiny villages, dotted along the coast like a string of pearls. Today most people live in towns. However, Ilulissat still has four thriving villages. One of these is Ilimanaq (Claushavn), which lies south of the Ice Fjord. Ilimanaq has many beautiful old colonial buildings and is famous for its excellent trout, caught in the Tasiusaq Fjord beyond the village. Many hikers are attracted by the superb hiking trails around here and often camp in the area for a night or two. You can get a meal for a reasonable price with a local family. Similarly, local guides offer tours round the village for DKK tba pp ($ tba).

Oqaatsut – Voyage to a Greenland Village JAV 11
For hundreds of years, Oqaatsut (Rodebay) was a stopover place for Dutch whalers, who dragged the huge whales onto land here in the old village. The village, which lies in a beautiful natural setting just 10 miles north of Ilulissat, has a mere 50 inhabitants, its own school, church, shop and a restaurant “H8”, which serves an excellent lunch in the old colonial building. You can combine a visit to Oqaatsut with a hike to or from Ilulissat, sailing the other leg.

Eqi – Voyage to the Calving Glacier - JAV12
The Eqi glacier which calves right into the fjord 80 km north of Ilulissat is one of the most beautiful places in Greenland. You can get close to the edge of the glacier by boat and see the calving process. The sound of the active glacier is quite remarkable while the sight of icebergs toppling into the water is breathtaking. The trip to Eqi is sailed with a modern and comfortable tourist boat. A good lunch and other refreshments are served.

Helicopter to the Ice Fjord and Inland Ice Cap - JAV 23
We take off from Ilulissat Airport in the legendary Sikorsky helicopter. The flight takes us to the protected area around the Ilulissat Ice Cap. Mountaintops and lakes in all colors appear together with gigantic icebergs. The Ilulissat Area is a UNESCO World Heritage sight recognized for its unique beauty. We land with a magnificent view to the Inland Ice Cap, the Ice Fjord and the many gigantic icebergs. We take a break from the flight for approximately half an hour. On the flight back we fly at low altitude and we get a close look at the floating icebergs. It is indeed an unforgettable sight.
Safety: People often ask us why we do not land at the Ice Cap. The ice is in constant movement at a glacier of this size. It is therefore too risky to land at the Ice Cap. Fortunately it is a more beautiful sight to land with a view to the Ice Cap.

Visit to Landstingssalen - GOH02
See the landstingssalen (government building) and learn all about Greenland home rule and the story behind it. Landstinget is the home government’s legislative body, equivalent to the parliament in Denmark. Greenland won home rule on 1 May 1979, and you can see the place where important decisions are made. The sitting members of Landstinget are politicians from various parts of the country, and the parliament has at least two sessions a year lasting several months to determine the shape of tomorrow’s Greenland.

Helicopter to the inland ice - GOH03
Visit the old Viking ruins in Anavig. Opportunity for a little hike on the inland ice itself. A visit in Kapisillit - the only active settlement in Godthåbsfjorden. Here you will learn the meaning of living in a hunter’s society. In Kapisillit we will enjoy a piece of cake and a cup of coffee/tea with a local family. This is a luxury trip for those who want to experience everything.

Whale watching around Nuuk - GOH05
The area around Nuuk has always been renowned for its beautiful fiord systems and majestic Humpback whales in particular. From June to late September you have a far better chance of seeing these amazing creatures here than anywhere else in Greenland. Whale watching is a must on a visit to Nuuk.There are mainly three species of whale in Godthåbsfjorden, (Fiord of Good Hope), the second largest fjord system in the world. The waters are rich in shoal swimming fish and crustaceans. Humpback, Minke, also known as the herring fisher, and Fin whales are certain sights from May to November. You may also see Blue whales and Killer whales if you are lucky.

Get to know Sisimiut on a two-hour tour taking in the history, culture and modern everyday life of the town. We will be visiting the craft workshops in the old Royal Greenland Trading Company warehouse, the museum in the old town with its gaily-painted beautiful houses from the colonial period and the famous entrance gate made out of a whale’s jawbone. In the fascinating open fish and meat market ”brættet” your guide will tell you all about local fishing traditions and the catch of the day. You will then head for the skin working studio where you can see sealskins being made into jackets, slippers and handbags, and watch musk wool spun into yarn, a unique tradition in the Sisimiut area.

A beautiful hike in the valley east of Sisimiut. The hike ends at the vantage point Qiterlinnguaq from where you can see the mouth of "Første fjord" and far into the land. Kaffemik with a Greenland family - JHS11
Kaffemik is something of a tradition in Greenland. Literally meaning “please come to our house for coffee”, Kaffemik is more than just afternoon coffee. It is an invitation for coffee and Greenland cakes or buns, after which you swap tales. You will be invited into a Greenland home and learn a bit about their way of life.

Dinner with a Greenland family - JHS12
Get close up and personal with a Greenland family in their own home. It is usually easier to chat over the dinner table, which is why you are hereby invited to enjoy a traditional Greenland meal, including the national dish “Suaasat”. This is a soup made from seal, whale, poultry or lamb with onion, rice and potatoes. Over dinner you can ask all about family life in Greenland and any other questions you may like to ask. At least one member of the host family will speak English.

Sew in sealskin - JHS13
Learn how to sew in sealskin under supervision. You have about 3 hours to make your own mittens or something else of sealskin from scratch. Everything is made by hand and with the right tools it is not too difficult. This gives you your own unique memory from Greenland. You will also have the opportunity to see a fine collection of Greenlandic needlework.

Hiking the track of the dog sledge's - JHS26
Enjoy the peaceful boat trip to the fiord Kangerluarsuk Tulleq, experience the powers of the tides at the narrow passage before leaving the boat to start the hike. Starting with filling up our drinking bottles with fresh creek water the hiking back to Sisimiut will begin. The first climbing is the toughest, however, you will have a beautiful view of the fiord system and the sea is waiting for us when we have reached the top. Beside the magnificent view from the top, a strange side meets us - an UFO shaped cabin. Used by the dog sledges during winter. While resting at the top and enjoying the pack lunch, there is time climbing up into the cabin. The rest of the hiking is down hill to Sisimiut following the track of the dog sledges. Likewise you will have a fantastic view of the nature around Sisimiut.

Food always tastes better outside, and what about catching it your self On a fishing trip after the red fish and cod in the area around Sisimiut every one will be instructed in cleaning the fish. The delicious fresh fish will be served with accompaniment for everyone to enjoy.

Visit the abandoned settlement Assaqutaq - JHS29
In the 60's and 70's a lot of settlements in Greenland were closed because people chose to move to the bigger cities to find jobs and to benefit from the modern facilities. Assaqutaq, which lies at the bottom of the south side of Kællingehætten, is one of those settlements. It is used as a summer camp by the local schools and in June there is a lot of activity because people from Sisimiut come to the area to fish Ammasetter, a small fish used as dog food. One the short hike through the settlement we'll pass the old fish factory, the summer camp and the beautiful old church.
